When you want more wholesome respect and validation in your life, the best way to achieve that result is to depend on yourself. Here are some of the ways you can do that.
1. Create a section for yourself in a gratitude journal.
Gratitude journals are meant to celebrate the great things that happen in your day. If you don’t have one yet, now is the perfect time to get started! It helps to reserve a little space for yourself to talk about the things you did right.
2. Tell yourself what you want others to say.
Instead of seeking external validation, try to think about what you’d like people to notice. You can see the best stuff in you before others, so confirm to yourself that you’re on the right path.
3. Recognize the judgments.
If you don’t feel great about being insecure or feeling down, you’ll end up feeling stuck. You have a right to experience whatever emotions occur. When the time is taken to validate that fact, it’s much easier to cope with difficult circumstances.
4. List what you need right now.
It’s not unusual for people to feel like they need to punish themselves when they do something wrong. Instead of extracting a penance, think about what your body and mind need to be successful. Once those items are identified, make sure to include them in your life.
Gaining respect and validation starts from within. Until you learn to love yourself, it’s much harder to find acceptance in others.
